London’s signature celebration of nerd & geek culture gets underway this weekend at the London Convention Centre when the Forest City ComiCon featuring Project Play kicks off its fourth-annual event this Saturday, September 23 at 9:30am.
Organizers, exhibitors, and volunteers are putting the finishing touches on the popular London geek event that features celebrity guests, special events, game tournaments, video games, board games, cosplay and more. The show is on track to bring thousands to Downtown London this weekend.
“Interest in the show has been incredibly strong this year,” said committee member John Houghton. “The Forest City ComiCon featuring Project Play has been building a reputation regionally as a ‘must-see’ event for anyone even remotely interested in nerd & geek culture and from what we have been seeing it looks like the word is out. There’s something here for everyone to enjoy this weekend.”
The schedule for the upcoming weekend is jam-packed with a wide range of activities and presentations for all ages, the overwhelming majority of which are included free of charge with admission. The show takes up both levels and all available floor space in the massive London Convention Centre. The schedule and its accompanying free event app are available through the Forest City ComiCon website: http://forestcitycomicon.ca/schedule/.
For special guests, fans have expressed the most enthusiasm towards Lord of the Rings actor Billy Boyd who, in addition to autograph and photo opportunities, will take to the Randy Sheffield Investors Group Main Stage at 1:00 pm. Additionally fans will have the chance to see Star Wars stuntman Dickey Beer, YouTube voice impressionist Brian Hull, Super Art Fight, 404s Improv Comedy and many more. Local presentations include topics ranging from Puppet Manipulation, to Video Game Design, to panels about writing and comic books. This year’s show also features a strong evening programming lineup, which continues into the evening on the ground floor of the convention centre after the exhibitor floor closes at 6:00 pm.
In the Project Play Interactive Zone presented by Digital Extremes, elements this year include a new Starship Bridge Simulator starting at 1pm, WiiU Tournaments, and Virtual Reality exhibits in addition to a full roster of RPGs and cutting-edge game developer displays.
The event would also not be complete without the return of its most popular annual presentation: the free-to-enter Fanshawe College Cosplay Contest on the Randy Sheffield Investors Group Main Stage, which gets underway at 5:30 pm.
Advanced tickets, which offer early admission to the geeky event starting at 9:30 am, continue to be available at www.forestcitycomicon.ca and at selected stores in London.
